Washington to Ogden

We woke up bright and early this morning because we had two National Parks to visit. When I came back from brushing my teeth, I saw that one of Bud and Carol's dogs had climbed into bed with Josh... so cute!

We hit the road for Zion National Park. The scenery was so neat with the clouds, mountains, and morning light!

Unfortunately there is a tiny town just before Zion with frequently changing speed limits and I was pulled over for speeding :( I was going 46 in a 30, so we were prepared for an enormous ticket... but for some reason, the cop recorded me going 5 over. Though it is still an annoying and unexpected expense, it wasn't as bad as we expected!

There is a really neat tunnel in Zion that has big windows in it, and we heard that they were used for construction and are now just very neat looking. There are also really cool rock formations!

We did a short 1 mile hike to a pretty overlook of Zion Canyon. I really enjoy hiking in these parks, but mostly only when there's a good view in the end to make it worthwhile!

Up next was Bryce Canyon. It started to snow as we drove further north...

The main road through Bryce was only open for two miles; long enough to stop at a few vista points, but not long enough to get to any trailheads... though since it was snowing and icy, I wasn't too interested in hiking! We drove to Bryce Point and Sunset Point. Josh acts extremely goofy every day but normally never lets me capture any of it on camera, but today he did! Something about Bryce, or the snow?

I decided to imitate Josh's modeling photos from Yosemite and do one Blue Steel face of my own before Josh handed the camera back to me and continued being ridiculous! I think that last photo is one of my favorites from the entire trip!

We also took some regular and cute photos.

We continued heading north. The snow stopped and we enjoyed the amazing colors of the rocks!

We made it into Ogden and went straight to our host's house. We met our host, Kathleen, her boyfriend, Shawn, and her Dad, Bob. The house is actually Bob and his wife's house, but Kathleen and Shawn live there too. Kathleen is 31 years old and Shawn is 21... very interesting! They treated us to pizza and we heard about Kathleen's amazing traveling adventures and learned about Mormonism; they are not Mormon but have educated themselves since they live in Utah! Kathleen has been to over 160 countries and Bob has been to about 70!!

Before we went to sleep, Bob told us that he was making pancakes for breakfast at 7 AM. We are definitely staying with a great and interesting family!

My high for the day was being really silly in Bryce Canyon, and Josh's high was visiting two National Parks today. My low was that we realized that this is President's Day Weekend! Duh! We totally forgot that this is a long weekend and are kind of dreading the probable crowds on the mountains tomorrow... :( Josh's low was our speeding ticket. My "ho" was a park ranger in the Bryce visitor center; since it was snowing, a lot of people were in the visitor center, and a ranger announced that he was going to give a lesson about rock formations to give everyone something to do... unfortunately, we later saw him giving the lesson to another ranger, since no visitors stuck around for the talk! Josh's "ho" was this 80 miles per hour "speed limit test" section of the highway in Utah!
