Day six in Lake Tahoe - Boreal

Just like always, we made breakfast and lunch and got to the mountain pretty early. Boreal today has an amazing $15 college lift ticket that is valid from 9 AM to 9 PM!! The parking lot was the most full of any mountain that we've seen so far, and we started to feel intimidated as the snowboarders walked around the parking lot. Everyone was wearing very expensive, professional-looking outfits!

Josh and I stayed in the green area in the beginning and he helped me practice linking turns, but before long he was off to explore the rest of the runs. As you can see from the trail map, Josh did a lot!

Boreal seemed to cater to snowboarders because there were a few different terrain parks of different sizes. We barely saw any skiers!

Josh convinced me to go up to a higher chairlift and I was so glad that he did! I went down a longer, less crowded green run a few times and I finally feel comfortable linking my turns and facing downhill the whole time. It was great!!!!

We left the mountain at 4:30 PM and went to Squaw Valley to meet Lisa, where she treated us to an après-ski of pizza and PBR! Again, we cannot say enough nice things about Lisa. We walked around the village and took a few photos.

Since we didn't want to burden Lisa for another night, we wanted to stay at Rachel's tonight. We had also left a few things, like our bikes, at Rachel's house, so we had to go by to pick them up. It was a very awkward and uncomfortable encounter since she had forgotten that we were supposed to stay with her that night and she was upset that we had to come by to get our bikes. It's too bad that our experience with Rachel was so negative because she seemed like such a kind person when we first met her!!

Josh and I went back to Boreal because Josh wanted to do some night skiing. I hung out in the lodge while he went on the half pipe and mini terrain park.

Lisa came through for us again and let us crash at her house for our last night in Tahoe. We stayed up late watching old videos of her telemarking and listening to her crazy stories: in Alaska, she and her friends once kayaked to a mountain with their ski gear, hiked all day, camped at the top, and skied down the next morning, and in Canada, she and her friends went heliskiing! Ridiculous!

Josh's high today was dinner with Lisa, and my high was finally being able to link turns and not being scared of bombing down the mountain!!!! Josh's low was that he did not accomplish his goal of landing a 180 in Tahoe. My low was our interaction with Rachel... but with every negative CS experience there is a positive experience that balances it out :) Josh's "ho" was when he was on a chairlift with another guy, and the men in the chair in front of them started laughing at the kids in the terrain park. Josh started laughing and so did the guy next to him... and it turned out to be a girl covering her head and wearing mens clothes! My "ho" occurred in the Boreal parking lot. Josh and I were just getting ready to get out of the car when a car pulled into the spot behind us. It was two boys blasting techno music and they looked like European twins. As we creepily watched them in the rear view mirror, Josh made up dialogue for them as they got ready... he called them Hans and Klaus and gave them very thick German accents!
