Evergreen to Winter Park - Copper Mountain

This morning we had to get out of the house very early because Annie and Andy both had to get to work. Some Couch Surfing hosts let you stay in their house when they're not there, and some don't; I guess it just depends on the hosts! We completely packed up the car and left just after 6 AM and drove straight to Frisco. We ate breakfast at a little local restaurant there, then went to Copper Mountain.

Josh and I dropped Vidak off at Camp Woodward before we bought our own lift tickets. Camp Woodward is an intense full day lesson to teach advanced snowboarders how to do freestyle jumps! Annie had given us a two-for-one ticket for Copper Mountain, so Josh and I were once again able to avoid the ridiculous $97 lift ticket price.

Josh and I had a great day of snowboarding! We took some runs together and then split up for the afternoon so Josh could do some harder runs. It was a really wonderful day with great conditions! Unfortunately, Vidak's day wasn't so great: apparently the Woodward instructor wasn't that helpful and Vidak, along with other classmates, ended up getting injured in the terrain park!

We were all tired as we drove to our new host's house... in Winter Park. We planned this pretty badly, obviously, since we skied in Winter Park when we were in Evergreen and now we're staying in Winter Park, but oh well! Our host, Jeff, suggested that we come by a little later since his roommate was having a dinner party, so the three of us ate dinner at Subway, delicious!

The dinner party was winding down when we got to Jeff's a little later, but we hung out with Jeff and discussed traveling stories until the guests left and we got to bed. Jeff is a very free spirited traveler: he Couch Surfed around Eastern Europe without any plan, which gave him many great and unexpected experiences, but also forced him to sleep on park benches for a few nights. He's just a few years older than us and moved to Winter Park after graduating college and now works as ski patrol at Winter Park!

My high for the day was snowboarding this afternoon.. I put on my iPod and my play list was just perfect for snowboarding! Josh's high was the great conditions at Copper Mountain, and his low was another day of driving even though were staying in the mountains. My low was that I seem to take two steps forward and one step back every day with snowboarding... I always have to spend the mornings getting my confidence back up, and it's very tiresome. Josh's "ho" was listening to Vidak's stories about Camp Woodward, and my "ho" was a run I encountered at the end of the day: I was taking a green run down to a blue, but when I got to the blue, I realized that it was covered in big moguls. I had to unstrap from the board and walk back to the green because I definitely didn't want to go down the moguls!!
