This morning we said goodbye to Gordon and the WWOOFers and headed to Joshua Tree. Unfortunately we had to back track to visit the Joshua Tree National Park, but it was worth it! We started to see Joshua Trees before getting to the park.
There were a lot of trees and really cool rock formations.
I thought it would be hilarious to get photos of Josh with Joshua Trees!!!! ... Right?
On our way to San Diego we visited a farmers' market to pick up some fruit. The farmers were very chatty and gave us coffee, strawberries, and green onions to try, and we bought a few oranges. I love farmers' markets!
We made it into the city and got to Heather and Jeff's right around dinner time and lucked out since Tuesday is taco night! Heather is Josh's first cousin once removed (thanks Wikipedia), and Heather and Jeff gave us three different sleeping options and we ended up deciding to "camp" in a tent in the backyard. We met the five kids and Jack and Avery, ages 3 and 5, helped us set up the camping area, tent, and sleeping bags. The kids went to bed very early which let the four of us have an adult dinner. We had beer, wine, cocktails and great conversation!
Josh and I fell asleep in the tent to the noise of deer sneaking around the yard. Well, we're not sure if they are deer, but we like to think it was to add to the "wilderness" feel!!
Josh and I shared the same high for the day: feeling so welcome at Heather and Jeff's house! Josh's low was finishing "The Da Vinci Code" audio book, so we now need to download a new book, and my low was leaving Gordon's farm: he has such grand visions for his property... I really hope it comes to fruition! My "ho" was a lady we encountered on a trail in Joshua Tree National Park; she kept pointing at every rock formation and every tree exclaiming how wonderful and amazing everything was, but it was very cute. Josh's "ho" was a hippie farmer at the farmers' market who tried to sell us miracle leaves and even gave us a sample to try.
