Today was a busy day! I bought a bike (a great deal on a new Trek 7100), and we packed up two months worth of clothes (ranging from bathing suits to ski jackets), a ton of dry food (like cereal, oatmeal, crackers, and trail mix) and perishables (like milk, cheese, fruits, and vegetables). Everything managed to fit in my little Matrix, plus snowboards and bikes!
We finally hit the road around 7:30 PM and arrived in Tallahassee around 10 PM. Chris and Meagan were incredibly nice; they had set up their office with two air mattresses, sheets, blankets, and pillows. We watched the BCS championship game with them and talked about the people we've met through Couch Surfing; they've mostly hosted Europeans and a few Australians. After Meagan and I had gone to sleep, Josh and Chris stayed up discussing documentaries and NPR.
Josh and I like doing "high/low/ho" each day: the high and low are pretty self-explanatory, and the "ho" is a funny or weird event between the high and low. My high for the day was getting our trip started! Josh said that his high was my new bicycle, because it was a great deal and I like it! Josh and I shared the same low for the day... leaving Gainesville so late because it would've been nice to spend more time with our hosts! My "ho" for the day was that finding our hosts' apartment ended up being more difficult than expected... we first knocked on the wrong door and awkwardly waited for the strangers to let us in. They told us about the duplicate apartment building across the parking lot, which was where we met our real hosts! Josh's "ho" was the bicycle shop owner who had a nice mix of "sketchy used-car salesman" and "wise foreign bicyclist."
Overall, a great start to our trip :)
